Getting to Know “Rail”

 by Autumn Huerter

Did you know that our band workshop program is for students of all ages, including adults? Today, our Music House team wants to highlight one of our newest adult bands, ‘Rail’. This quartet is a fun group who have pulled their musical influences from iconic artists such as Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. They rehearse on Wednesdays at our Prairie Village location, and we are excited to have them perform in our upcoming Battle of the Bands event on Sunday, June 11th at our Overland Park campus.

Continue reading to learn more about Rail, what advice they have for aspiring musicians, and what they enjoy most about being here at Music House.

Students left to right: Laura Soligo, Ted Smith, Lee McAllister, Frankie Mefferd

Teacher: Dodi Wiemuth

How did you come up with your band name?

Laura: We brainstormed for a while and it was down to Rail and Atlas and we took a vote. It was Sage's idea.

What's the best part of being in a band?

Frankie: Playing music with other people

Lee: Having friends with similar interests.

Laura: Creating something together.

What's your most memorable band experience?

Lee: The first time we played at Jerry's Bait Shop

Laura: Yeah! We got to play their jam and it was like 11:30pm. But the crowd loved it!

If you got to open for any band, current or defunct, who would it be?

Frankie: Nirvana

Lee: Tame Impala

Laura: Smashing Pumpkins

Ted: Pixies

What advice would you give to students that are just getting started?

Ted: Get in a band!

Laura: Playing in a band has helped me with my playing more than anything.

Frankie: Even when it's hard, keep going! It'll get easier.
