What's your main instrument?

Guitar is my main instrument. I’ve been playing it for a little over 9 years now, and I would say it’s the instrument I have the most knowledge about. I also just really enjoy playing it.

What's your musical origin story? What lit the spark for you?

When I was younger, I used to play Guitar Hero on my PS2. I probably played it for hours every day after school. I mainly played the drum part for the game, and thought the intro to Hot For Teacher by Van Halen was one of the coolest things ever, so I tried to convince my parents to let me learn how to play drums. My mom didn’t want a loud drum set in the house, but I still wanted to play music so I started learning how to play guitar. Eventually, I did get a drum set.

Can you share a good gig story?

I recently played at Jerry’s Bait Shop, and it was packed. I did one of my favorite Blues songs “Can’t Hold Out” by Elmore Hames. I like to do a call and response at the end of that song but usually just the other members in the band sing back. This time, I was able to get the entire bar to sing along with me.

Tell us about your practice routine and share some practice tips.

Since I play multiple instruments, I have to split a lot of my practice time between them, but one of my primary practice methods is to go out to jams and essentially put myself through the wringer. I try to challenge myself by going out and playing bass, drums, or singing on songs I may not be 100% comfortable with. The best way to do this is by going to blues jams, since usually they’ll just call out the key and then start the song.

What drew you to the Music House team?

I actually got my start as a student at Music House and deeply appreciated how the program focused on individual students and helping them work towards playing in a band. I have always wanted to help people through music, and found that teaching was one of the best ways to do that.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I am super proud of all my students! They all put in such hard work and dedication, and I’m grateful to get the opportunity to help further their journey in music.
