Senior Send-off: Sidney Gana

 by Aaron Sizemore

Voice student Sidney Gana

Meet longtime Music House student, Sidney Gana. She's graduating this Spring and we couldn't be more proud of her. "Sidney has been such a joy to work with," says her lesson teacher Jessie Freyermuth. "She made the most of a very difficult year and I'm so excited for her next chapter."

Throughout her 8 years at Music House, Sidney has studied, socialized, rehearsed, & performed (many, many times). She's taken full advantage of what makes Music House special — our collaborative culture — and we have no doubt that she'll seize the many opportunities that await her in the future.

Here's Sidney performing recently with her band "Flip a Coin".

And here's what Sidney had to say when we interviewed her last week.

What instrument do you play?

I'm a vocalist.

How long have you been studying voice?

About five or six years.

What are your plans for after graduating high school? If you're going to college, do you know what you'll be studying?

I'm going to college to study engineering.

How do you think music will be a part of your life after Music House?

It will be a relaxing hobby. A way to de-stress.

What is a moment at Music House that you'll never forget?

I solid year of zoom voice lessons was a pretty memorable "moment". I learned a lot, but we never met in person!

What advice do you have for Music House students who are just starting to learn to sing?

Find a way to apply what you are doing in your lessons to something outside of it, like a choir or a community ensemble. For me, it was a Music House band!

What will you miss most about Music House?

I'll miss the opportunities Music House provided me to collaborate with my peers in a band and learn music I would not otherwise listen to.

What's the best piece of musical advice you've received?

Listen to others.

What do you hope to remember most about your best performance at Music House?

Having fun while performing on stage with my peers.
