Jessica Alvarado Brenes holds a Master’s of Arts from Truman State University, and a Bachelor’s in Music from the University of Costa Rica. Originally from San Jose - Costa Rica, Jessica has developed a teaching and performance career in both Costa Rica and the U.S. As a clarinetist, she has been bass clarinetist for the OSUCR Orchestra, associate clarinetist for Cartago National Concert Band; she also has been a substitute for the Quincy and Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestras, as well as being an active chamber musician. As an educator, Jessica has taught clarinet, piano, and coached woodwinds, aural skills, choir, and has taught general music at a wide variety of ages, from toddlers to the collegiate level. Jessica is very passionate about bringing music and arts closer to children and the community. Jessica has been awarded with the Honor Student Recital Competition in 2016, the University Soloists Concerto Competition in 2019, and the Wind Symphony Concerto Competition and Gold Medal Aria and Concerto Competition in 2023. She was also a semifinalist in the international clarinet competition Jose Manuel - Che che - Ugalde Quirós, and was Runner-Up and Honorable Mention at the MMTA Graduate Woodwind Competition.
