Getting to Know “Das House”

by
Autumn Huerter

Over the years, our Band Workshop Program has produced some incredible gems with great kids coming together to make music. ‘Das House’ is no exception to that rule. While they may sound like a German synth-rock band, this talented group of teens have musical influences from all across the spectrum, including Queen and BTS. Continue reading to learn more about their very windy first show, how they got their name, and what kind of goals and ambitions they have for the future.

Band Members pictured left to right: Miles Moncke, Jett Shauers, Arjun Joshi, Simone Brown, Kaylea Gibson, Aiden Canon

How did you come up with your band name?

Aiden:
I was from an interesting Mad Lib. We were almost Arjun's Midnight People.

What's the best part of being in a band?

Aiden:
Being able to play in a group setting with other skilled people.
Kaylee: Making music together.
Simone: Getting to hang out and also make music.
Miles: It's different than playing to a track because it's more organic. You can improvise more.
Jett: The music. I like music.
Arjun: It pushes me outside my comfort zone. I get to play different instruments than I'm used to sometimes.

What are some of your band goals?

Arjun:
Learn piano.
Miles: Make new songs.
Simone: Become more confident.
Aiden: I'd like to become more proficient at bass
Kaylee: Write more original music.

What's your most memorable band experience?

Miles:
The first show because it was pretty messy but fine (it was an outdoor show with a lot of wind).
Arjun: At the first show, I invited my friends and they saw me freezing outside. It wasn't pretty, but it was memorable and it ended up fine.
Simone: When Arjun sang to us (everyone agrees)
Kaylee: The same thing Simone said.

If you got to open for any band, current or defunct, who would it be?

Aiden:
Alt J
Kaylee: Queen
Simone:Wallows or Beyonce
Miles: Collboh
Jett: Mozart
Arjun: BTS

What advice would you give to students that are just getting started?

Jett:
Keep playing music. You'll get better, just you wait!
Aiden: Don't stop believing. Pick up another instrument if you can.
Miles: Throw yourself into a song, even if you think it's hard. That's how you get good.
Arjun: Have fun with it.
